FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?
We offer a wide range of Cosmedix skin care. Their skin care formulas feature high concentrations of active ingredients and are created to pair with professional treatments from our peel menu.
All of the Cosmedix skin care products exclude parabens, petrolatum, mineral oil, PEGs, sodium lauryl sulfate, hydroquinone, glycolic acid, formaldehyde donors and artificial dyes and fragrances. Plus, they are also 100% cruelty-free—no exceptions, ever.
WHAT SIDE EFFECTS CAN I EXPECT?
Some clients may experience the following normal responses during and immediately after the peel:
- Mild skin sensitivity
- Redness/Flushing
- Dryness / Mild flaking / Mild itchiness
Unwanted side effects may present as:
- Swelling and painful to touch
- Scabbing and skin peeling
- Excessive redness lasting longer than 5-7 days
- Burning sensations
This will all be discussed, monitored and followed up by one of our Nurse's. Should you have any concerns please contact us.
IS THERE ANYTHING IMPORTANT I SHOULD LOOK OUT FOR?
When a peel is applied to the skin you can feel slight tingling to the skin. You should never experience a “burning” sensation. Our peels are very tolerable and will leave your skin feeling softer, firmer, more hydrated and rejuvenated.
Are professional peels safe?
Yes. Before any treatment is performed we will always conduct a Skin Consultation to determine your suitability, and to go over any potential contraindications you may have to the treatment.
Aftercare will also be recommended to aid in post-treatment recovery.
WHAT IF I DON'T KNOW WHAT I NEED?
We offer a range of Cosmedix skin care products and skin treatment options. Our Nurses will evaluate your skin goals and needs and will be able to recommend a plan that suits your budget and lifestyle.
What's recommended as part of the aftercare?
Homecare is always recommended after a skin treatment. We will look at your current skincare regime to determine which products are suitable to use post-treatment. There is no pressure to purchase ours. We do give samples of aftercare if you require them.
- Certain peels may require additional home care to be considered and purchased. This will be discussed prior to treatment.
Please see our aftercare information above.
Can I just do 1 treatment?
Yes of course! However, if you have a certain skin goal in mind, this may require more treatments such as a 3, 6, or even 12 month plan. This will all be discussed in a consultation and we will assist in devising a plan that suits your time, budget and lifestyle.
How often should I have a peel?
Peels are performed anywhere between every 2 to 4 weeks, pending your skin concerns and goals.
'Maintenance' treatments are recommended every 3 months.
When is it an appropriate time to get a peel if I am doing other treatments?
Peels can be performed 2 weeks after most skin treatments. However, there may be instances where we recommend a wait period of 4 weeks.
If you have an upcoming event we usually recommend to have your peel performed 1 week prior or enough time to allow for appropriate downtime.
Who is suitable for a peel?
Most skin types are suitable for peels, however if your skin is deemed ‘impaired’ then we will recommend an alternative treatment (or homecare products) until we can strengthen your skin barrier to perform peels.
As always, we will provide a comprehensive skin consultation to discuss your skin in more detail and provide you with the best peel options.
Can they actually help reduce wrinkles?
Peels are designed to reveal new and healthier skin faster leading to a smoother, more refined and hydrated skin.
In some cases however, we may suggest our SkinPen treatment for more advanced correction. You can also have a ‘Consultation to reduce wrinkles’ with one of our Nurse’s which is more specific to wrinkle reduction.
Is it normal to break out after a peel?
Yes, there is a potential for this to occur, otherwise known as “skin-purging.” When we perform a peel, we are encouraging the skin to speed up the cellular turnover process, leading to faster skin shedding than normal.
You should not be alarmed as this generally clears up within a few days.
Please contact us via email, with photos, should you have any concerns.
CAN I RECEIVE TREATMENT IF PREGNANT OR BREASTFEEDING?
Yes, we do offer a range of peels that are deemed safe for pregnant and breastfeeding clients. However, depending on your concern and skin condition we may advise against it.
